What Food is in Season in November?

Remember, remember!

The fifth of November,
The gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England’s overthrow

Of course we have bonfire night in November so there will be a warming recipe for mulled wine. The other main events  foodwise for this month are white truffles and the Mighty Quince. Otherwise it’s a month for crumpets, or toast with Patum Peperium or beef dripping.

Stilton and Stichelton are at their best. Nuts of all kinds abound. And fruit, harbingers of Christmas, such as clementines, cranberries and pomegranates appear.

Towards the end of the month in Canada and America there is Thanksgiving and in Scotland, on 30th November St Andrew’s day is celebrated. So this month will have a Scottish flavour.
