The Montepulciano Restaurant Guide

A month or so ago we were travelling through Italy, and we stopped at a lovely villa just outside Montepulciano. The hotel does not provide dinner so we went into Montepulciano to have dinner. I’d stayed in Montepulciano once before, living, conveniently, in a wine bar (E lucevan le stelle  – a wonderful place) and I hadn’t remembered having to book at restaurants, but on this evening in any case we found ‘no room at the inn’ pretty much everywhere.

We tried:

L’altro Cantuccio

Bottega del Nobile

Logge del Vignola €€

La Pentolaccia

La Grotta €€

And

Osteria del Conte

All recommended, and all without luck.

We finally made it into the Osteria del Borgo, just off the main square, and we had as good a meal there as any we’ve had in Italy to date.

We had some wonderful steak, which you can read more about here, and some soft, luscious potatoes – you can see the recipe here.
